Preston, Idaho is the largest city in Franklin County and was established in 1900. The city's most recent claim to fame is being the setting of the 204 film Napoleon Dynamite. Both of the creators of Napoleon Dynamite, Jared and Jerusha Hess, are from Preston. Parts of the film were filmed at Preston High School.
Every July, Preston hosts the That Famous Preston Night Rodeo which draws in visitors from miles around. The Rodeo has a parade each night, a "City of Fun" Carnival, and a sidewalk sale where vendors sell camping gear, clothes, jewelry, gifts, signs, and more.
Another notable Preston Tradition is the Festival of Lights, held each year from Thanksgiving to December 31st. During the Festival, lights are put up all around the city center and there are free movies, a candlelight dinner, live entertainment, fireworks, and a lighted parade.
Preston is also near a variety of camping, hunting, and fishing locations. The Cub River is a beautiful area to explore. The Albert Moser Campground also offers wonderful camping and sights. Big Hill Peak is a beautiful peak to hike and take in breathtaking vistas.
